DSIP is the synthetic nonapeptide tryptophyl-alanyl-glycyl-glycyl-aspartyl-alanyl-seryl-glycyl-glutamic acid, first described in 1977, supplied as a lyophilized powder in a sealed vial.
DSIP was isolated by Schoenenberger and Monnier (PNAS, 1977) from rabbit cerebral venous blood; it is studied in cellular and animal models as a neuropeptide.
